Formerly Flathead J Boats, Sail Montana began selling sailboats in the early 1970’s on Flathead Lake, Montana. Officially a dealer for J Boats in 1977, the business focused on one design racing, selling J24’s.
In 1999, Pete Sauer, a native Montanan and lifelong sailor, acquired the business and expanded the product line to include LaserPerformance (builder of the Sunfish and Laser), North Sails, Quantum Sails, Triad Sailboat Trailers and Fairclough Sailboat Covers.
Today the business serves sailors in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia via three divisions:
Sail Montana: new and brokerage sailboats, sails, chandlery, yacht surveys
Big Sky Yacht Delivery: on the water or over the road delivery of sail and motor vessels.
Bound 4 Glory Racing: competition and instruction in the sport of sailboat racing

CHANDLERY
Sail Montana stocks running and standing rigging and misc hardware in our mobile chandlery. We feature Harken, Samson Line, and other brand names such as Lewmar, Ronstan, and Forespar. We can bring our trailer to your boat, wherever it may be, at your home, at a marina or on the water.
SURVEY
Sail Montana offers a full range of survey services, including market analysis, insurance and bank required surveys. Prices vary by boat size and location.

Big Sky Yacht Delivery
Our staff and associates have safely completed a number of sea deliveries on both coasts, and to and from Mexico and Canada. Pete is a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain, Master, 100 ton, for both sail and motor yachts. We can arrange for additional qualified crew for an owner-accompanied delivery, or handle the entire delivery from start to finish. We have extensive cruising experience including Mexico, Caribbean, Intercoastal Waterway, San Juan and Gulf Islands in the Pacific Northwest.
On the water delivery of sail and motor vessels up to 100 ton.
Over the road delivery of sailboats up to 7 ton, 40' LOA using custom Triad Sailboat Trailers.
